25th of June 1950 is the official date the Korean War started.
On this date we were in Gwangju and went past the May 18th National Cemetery.
Gwangju is the birthplace of a modern democratic movement in Korea. The history of civil resistance is established in commemoration of the May 18 Democratic Uprising, and the National Cemetery. This National Cemetery is the symbol of freedom and democracy and is the grave of victims during the contention for democracy in May 1980.
A small museum next to the cemetery shares the history of this tragic day.
A commemoration was held today, while we were visiting, at the Memorial tower in memory of another bloody date, namely 25th of June 1950 (the Korean War).
