Still a “virgin waterfall” in Bali, this waterfall within a cave is very unique.
Hands down, I have by no means visited all waterfalls in Bali. Still, I will claim that the Tukad Cepung is a rare gem. Yes, there where other tourist visiting when we were there (but what are we ;-), but only very few. It is probably a matter of time before it will be crowded, so go rather sooner than later.
By no means do my pictures do it justice (I really have to practise my “waterfall-picture-skills”), however it was SO beautiful and unique. A small fee and a light trekking of 15-20 minutes (a path has been made all the way, so no problems for children nor us) and you end up by a narrow creek taking you into the cave. I recommend rubber flip flops or similar to avoid getting wet fx. sneakers.
It was a little like an “Indiana Jones moment” getting there, and such a good experience. It is important to know, that it is worth going on a sunny day. The sun enters the cave from above through the vegetation making it look like a fairytale in the cave.
There are 2 tiny local “Warungs” on the path to the waterfall that serves fresh coconuts, water and food. So if you are looking for an authentic and in-expensive refreshment or “jungle lunch” this is it.
To get there get a private driver to take you. The location is north of Ubud with the address: Jl. Tembuku, Dusun Penida Kelod, Tembuku, Bangli, Tembuku, Kabupaten Bangli, Bali 80671
