The most amazing open air art we ever saw.
The Hakone Chōkoku No Mori Bijutsukan is a gallery that has created a harmonic balance of nature and art by exhibiting amazing art sculptures on its grounds in combination with the stunning views of the surrounding valley and mountains.
The lawns surrounding the museum are filled with abstract sculptures from Japanese and international artists. One of the larger pieces is the Symphonic Sculpture (not to be missed). It is a spiral staircase surrounded by colorful stained glass to a viewing platform on top.
Also available at the museum are several more exhibition halls with rotating exhibitions by various artists, shops and cafes that overlook some of the installations, multiple kids spaces including Zig Zag World where children can play among a soft art installation (our kids loved this/ did not want to leave), and an outdoor (hot) foot bath.
Half a day is easily spend here and it is it worth coming to Hakone even just for this gem of a place.
