The Twin Dragons

We visited the oldest temple in Kyoto, the Kenninji Temple (founded 1202).

The painting of the Twin Dragons (Koizumi Junsaku) was installed in the celling of the temple in 2002 to mark the 800 year anniversary of Kenninji‘s founding. It is drawn with the best quality ink on thick traditional Japanese paper. It took the artist 2 years to complete (measures 11,4 x 15,7 meters).

We thought it was very striking and ended up buying a small copy of the painting with us before leaving the impressive temple and Zen gardens.
