Yet another hyped ‘pearl’ of a restaurant from Bille-Brahe in the heart of Copenhagen.
Apollo bar opened this spring and is Copenhagen famous chef Frederik Bille Brahe’s newest restaurant. It is located within the Kunsthal Charlottenborg gallery. and serves as restaurant, canteen and event space. The Apollo bar and canteen boasts beaurtiful soaring ceilings and generously proportioned windows. Décor, by local hero and designer Rune Bruun Johansen, is sparse but full of thoughtful Danish Design touches, such as Børge Mogensen’s ‘J39’ chairs – inherited from the art school next door.
Meanwhile, a row of plaster cast statues, raised against a red wall, brings a dash of drama. The canteen offers one lunchtime dish, while the more intimate tiny restaurant serves three meals a day, serving creations such as beef tartare with piment d’espelette and grapefruit and ricotta cheese on toast with blueberries. In the warmer months, the adjacent courtyard is the perfect spot to while away time having a coffee and admiring the impressive architecture of the Kunsthal.
The crowd is a mix of art students, visitors from the Kunsthal, fashion and design people and tourists.
