Airbnb at its very best.
Our first real destination for Shikoku is Kochi on the southwest coast.. This natural paradise is famous for its soothing waters in the form of clear rivers and lengthy coastlines.
2 hours on the highway through at least 30 tunnels and we reach Kochi, actually we reach the small town Ino just outside of Kochi along the River Yoshino (famous for its emerald-turquoise colour). We found a traditional river house through airbnb, and when we arrive it turns out to be just near perfect. We are the first guests to stay here after the owners have been carefully renovating, and it is authentic, beautiful and just by the river offering an amazing view. Our hosts offers to have an barbecue with a chef, which we accepts, and gives us an evening with amazing local food. We can not recommend this part of the island or this place highly enough. Such a big part of travelling is accommodation and it sure turned out to be 3 days we will never forget.
Friends of ours from Denmark came by in their autocamper, and we went canoeing and spend some quality time. The weather turned out to be tropical rain, so it was perfect timing for us to have a little more space than just a regular hotel room, since we were spending more time inside than we had on our trip so far.
